Hi, I'm alex Soto
ATHLETE I COACH I PRODUCT INNOVATOR
I’m a freestyle foil rider from the Dominican Republic. I love pushing myself to my limits, learning new tricks, experimenting with my equipment to get the best possible results, and meeting new people who share my passion for wind and water sports. Find out more about my background and past competition results below.
My Journey with Kite
In 2004, when I was 18 years old I had my first introduction to kiting, and soon after I started my career as a freestyle athlete. For the next 9 years I traveled all over the world competing, consistently placing among the top 10 riders in the world.
After retiring from freestyle to focus on running my own school, I discovered race foil, and found my way back to competing, representing the Dominican Republic in the World Sailing Championships and the Pan American Games and serving as leader of the country’s olympic foil team.
While racing, I missed the adrenaline and the community of freestyle riding, so I started to experiment with combining the best things about race and freestyle. Luckily around this time, a new category was starting: Freestyle foil. Since 2022 I have been competing in freestyle foil/big air foil.
My Work

COACHING
I started my coaching career in 2008 with clinics in Morocco, Spain and Brazil, and I have loved sharing my passion for the sport ever since. I have been an IKO instructor since 2008, and also an qualified GKA judge.

Product Innovation
Apart from kiting, one of the things I love most is understanding how things work. Since 2008 I have been working with different brands including Starkite and f-one as both a tester, and developmental designer of kites.
Most recently I have been working closely with Mio boards and Onix foils to design, test, and modify the equipment I use for my freestyle foil riding.
